Esta industria había estado enfocada en buena parte a la exportación de tapones de corcho en todo el mundo. Palafrugell es uno de los destinos turísticos y de segunda residencia más grande de las comarcas gerundenses. Esto hace que la población en el pico del verano se sitúe en torno a los 60.000 habitantes, prácticamente triplicando la población censada. La franja litoral comprende 12 km de recortes calas y pequeñas playas.~
